It’s been a month since I even opened my laptop to write something. It was my daughter’s summer vacation and when it started, I was apprehensive how I am going to manage it here. We couldn’t travel to India. We were able to explore nearby places throughout this Summer.

Engaging a 4-year-old all day long is a strenuous thing. The 6-week vacation went better than I expected. Kids enjoy better with kids. I’m honestly grateful for friends who helped this first summer vacation go by smoothly. We were all there for each other.

School started yesterday. Now the first thing I did this morning was to sit down and write something. What better than sharing a lovely summer memory, as the great vacation ends. I have my breathing space and she has hers now.

This is another cherry blossom inside our community which bloomed beautifully this year. I took this on a sunny day in March. The evening photos of this tree were even great.

I don’t know a good tree quote, but at this moment, all I can feel is complete gratitude for all that happened in the past two months.

I enjoy these Little Buddha doodles which made me laugh, think and cherish a lot of thing in life. Here’s one I wish to share here.

This tree mesmerized me on my first visit to Caludon Castle Park. It has been a year since we went out even to the nearest park. This year we decided to visit the places around where we live. I couldn’t stop myself from taking this picture. I’d love to follow this tree through the seasons to come.

After being on a regular routine of school and home for quite sometime, my daughter loved the view of this park. She ran like a horse that felt happy on the field.

They had organized a carnival in this park a month ago. The first and the only snack I bought from the carnival was cotton candy. Remember those times?

Not many times I miss home. Though I miss people there, I don’t miss the comfort of the home. Not until today. While I was checking for photos to post, this popped up. One of my favourite trees and one of the few ones that is still around the house.

When my grandfather bought this land and built a house, he did it with his friends. Almost 3-5 friends purchased together and 3 of them became neighbours. I still vividly remember my summer holidays during school. I used to play at my neighbours place for hours together. Now, those are memories of the 90’s.

Both these trees belong to my neighbours. When a coconut falls, it’s never yours or mine. We take it if it falls in our house, they take it when it falls in theirs.

Also, my grandparents used to hire coconut tree climbers back in time when we had a garden of our own. It used to be more like a picnic in the garden where we spend the day sorting mangoes, guavas and coconuts in various baskets, ready to distribute it to friends and family.

My father still follows what his father-in-law left since the time we moved here a decade back. We don’t hire any coconut tree climbers anymore, but we collect and use the coconuts that fall off the tree. We distribute to those who ask for it.

My father is still fond of picking mangoes from the tree and distributing it to friends and family. Since he is not supposed to go out now, he sends them through swiggy. Times change, but some traditions still bring beautiful memories.

Do you have a Happy Tree? All the trees I have seen so far has made me happy. This tree is special because it marked the start of an unexpected journey.

This is the tree that welcomed me to my new place for the first time outside my homeland. I took this picture before two years back during my first travel to London.

My daughter was just 2 years old and we were due to travel. I was excited and nervous about how things are going to be. My daughter was an amazing companion to travel with. It was one of the smoothest journey that happened to me.

For 3 months, this is what I woke up to every morning. It is such a lovely reminder of beauty around us. I was going through a lot of personal struggles back then.

If I had to list 3 things that made me feel better, I’d give it all to Black coffee, watching the skies and trees around me. They made me relax slowly. It helped me let go of many intense emotions.

I am forever thankful for receiving such a warm welcome in a new country. Now, after almost 2 years, I could call it home without second thoughts. That’s exactly how I felt moving here. This is a place to call Home!

This quote completes my thoughts in an apt way about my happy tree.

There are always FLOWERS for those who want to see them.

I’ve waited to see this tree bloom since September 2020. This tree is one from my daughter’s school campus. The pink flowers look like rose to me, but I’m not sure if they are roses.

The best thing about the trees and the landscape in these countries are the colors. They are visually pleasing to our eyes. A constant reminder of beauty. Like Wordsworth quoted,

For oft when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood
They flash upon that inward eye
which is a bliss of solitude.

Unlike India where the smallest of the flowers bring anything from mild to wild fragrance to our senses, here some are only about appealing to our visual senses. Some of us are allergic to the fragrances, but when it comes to capturing moments through our eyes, it is pure joy.

This is one such beautiful tree. I am yet to find out the name of this. It looks like roses, but it could be a variation of flowering cherry almond . I will update this post once I find the name soon.

This is a Cherry Blossom tree right outside our rented apartment. Last year when I came here, this tree was bare in winter. It resonated with my feelings of finally finding the courage to travel against all odds.

I still remember the spring blooms from last year. It brought a lot of calmness in me. This is one recent shot and one of the first from outside my present home

This is my first tree here. Since it’s right out of my window, it’s easy to track everyday. It’s like looking out to a friend and waving to them everyday. You don’t know them, neither have you talked to them, but that ritual makes your day.

I’ve seen this one shed it’s most beautiful flowers, the green leaves turn Yellow and brown and finally fall down as we entered winter. Totally cold and bare throughout winter, but blooming again in Spring.

If there’s one Life lesson I learned from this tree, it is Patience.

The Last Week of Winter

The earth rustles back to colour
As Winter paves way to Spring.
I’ve seen all seasons in a new country,
As we step into this season of Spring.

School began last Autumn,
When leaves changed colours in this tree.
As Winter came close,
The tree was bare as can be.

Schools reopened after Winter Lockdown
Delighting our walks with these blooms.
As I walk to my daughter’s school
We walk back smiling at the Daffodils.

The colors of Spring brightens me
Cheers me to look to New Beginnings
As cold winds changed to bright sunshine
Winter clearing it’s way to Spring.
